Indigenous to mainland Australia, it is adaptable to most soils but prefers heavy clay in an open sunny position, and is drought and frost resistant.

Aboriginal use: The native willow is useful as windbreaks and for checking erosion; it is also a valuable timber resource. In addition, the bark is used to poison fish.
